About the Author
Charles Ksir received his bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin and his Ph.D. from Indiana University in Bloomington. Following his postdoctoral training in Neurobiology at the Worcester Foundation in Massachusetts, he began a 34-year career in teaching and research at the University of Wyoming, where he also served in a variety of administrative positions. Now a professor emeritus, he focuses his efforts on teaching and textbook writing. He has taught the psychology course Drugs and Behaviour to more than three thousand students since 1972 and has received several teaching awards.

This was one of the better textbooks I have read in the course of obtaining my master's. I was actually sad that I rented it and did not buy this one. There is a new version but this one was easy to read and provided a great deal of information. I do appreciate the different treatment approaches discussed.
I ordered this e textbook which was advertised as being one I could highlight. This in fact was NOT true. What you highlight in the text disappears and you then have to track down parts of what you highlights by going to amazon.kindle. com. This is absolutely useless for any student who needs to use the book for tests and exams. False advertising, but as I live overseas I have no option. Very disappointed and feeling duped!
As far as textbooks go, this is one of the easiest to read, understand, and actually finish. While informative, it isn't dry and chock-full of flashy words to make the author sound smart and readers feel stupid. It has an easy flow and the chapters are broken down into small sections.
Nice and compact. Had to get this for my addiction class. The chapters are nice and detailed and helped me get my homework and required reading done. Studying this textbook helped me ace my exams. I like that this textbook is smaller and lighter than normal textbooks. I wished all textbooks were this size.
Exactly what you expect from a book.
It does a good job of reviewing societal thought on drugs and different trends noticed, but it's much too dated. A newer book would probably be better suited for someone that is actually interested in this.
